All EMT 100 students must have an American Heart Association BLS for the Health Care Provider CPR or BLS Provider (after 4/2016) card/e-card (required under NHTSA and California Regulations) prior to the first day of class.
We will ONLY ACCEPT American Heart Association CPR cards (or eCards)- BLS for the Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association) or BLS Provider (after 4/2016)
- California Code of Regulations Title 22, Division 9 – Prehospital Emergency Medical Services, Chapter 2 – Emergency Medical Technician §100066 (2) A statement verifying CPR training equivalent* to the current American Heart Association’s Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care at the Healthcare Provider level (BLS Provider after 4/2016) is a prerequisite for admission to an EMT basic course. *Red Cross course do not issue forgery resistant wallet CPR cards and does not provide physical textbooks to students for their classes as AHA requires. These issues make Red Cross classes not equivalent by the college’s standards.
- Online CPR courses without hands on skills component are NOT accepted! EMS will NOT except Life Guard Training Certificates or EMR (First Responder) Certificates as CPR cards. The student must have a BLS for the Healthcare Provider or BLS Provider Card/e-card from the American Heart Association and we no longer except Red Cross Cards.
